My Hair...Real Talk
Happy Monday my sexy Bee-yotches! I hope you all had an awesome weekend and enjoyed the game last night. It was really cool to see Philly win! Sorry Tom Brady...NOT. Anyways, now that we are in the month of February, I am all things LOVE! So, I will be sharing with you guys daily the things that make my heart flutter. So let's get to it. Hair...I love big long luscious locks! I have been receiving a lot of questions about my hair from many of you so as promised, I will always be straight up with you about everything and how I get my hair looking so long and so healthy. Two words...Hair Extensions. Yup, that's right, I wear hair extensions I would say majority of the time. Many of you want to know why? or, How much does it cost? How long does it last? Etc. So I am here to break down the whole process for you.
I have always had pretty healthy hair and never really a problem growing it out. However...the longer I grew it the thinner I noticed my ends began to look. You know when you start to give off Rat Tail vibes? Yup, that was me. Anyways, I had always heard of people getting hair extensions and assumed it would be something way too expensive or the maintenance would be too much to ever get them. I had also heard horror stories of people losing hair or their hair thinning out from different types of methods to get hair extensions. Luckily I found Jessica Goldstein which was like hitting the hair GOLD mine. (Haha get it? Damn...I really need to get out more). Anyway, she was able to explain to me why some methods are extremely damaging and why her method isn't hard on your hair at all. 3 years later I can say my hair is still EXTREMELY healthy plus...it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get it done. ***Implementation starts at $250 but that price varies. The only way to know for sure is by scheduling a consultation.
There are so many ways to implement hair extensions. There are clip ins, sew ins, individual bonded, Tape Ins, you name it. At JGold The Salon they use Micro Bead Extensions which is the best method to use when implementing them. This is because its the least damaging to your hair. Any type of stress on the hair (including a tight ponytail) is going to cause some hair to be lost. They can also be taken out and put in in a shorter time period than other methods. When meeting with your hairstylist, make sure you discuss with them what method they use when putting hair extensions in. Another important factor when considering getting hair extensions is the type of hair you purchase. This is actually VERY important. You want to have good quality hair in your head because you want it to match the same texture of your own hair and you want it to be soft and not dry as this can get tangled up with you real hair. Two of the best hair companies used at Jessica's Salon are Bellami and Bohyme. I have had both. Bellami is the more expensive of the two but it is worth it. The good thing also is, one pack of good hair can last you an entire year if you take good care of it. Plus, a lot of people can get away with not having to use a whole pack so depending on how much you need you could possibly go more than a year with one pack of hair.
Once you determine which type of hair you want, they will color them to make sure they match your hair color 100%. Have I mentioned Jessica and her staff are all color wizards too? Oh yeah...It's kind of crazy how talented these chicks are. Once they are finished with your color they will begin implementing them. As you can see, the track will lie close to the scalp. It is not painful at all. They may feel tight for a day or two but they begin to loosen up. I am actually the client that asks for them to be super tight every time I go.
Once they are in, your stylist should also cut them to make sure they blend perfectly with your real hair. The great thing about this type of extensions also are you only have to come in for a reimplementation every 6-8 weeks, depending on how often you wash your hair or they are getting pulled on. What's even better about extensions is you can go a few days without having to wash your hair too because the extensions maintain your hairstyle longer. This really helps when you are constantly on the go and maybe don't have time to do your hair everyday. Also, if you are greasy like me it hides just how greasy your real hair may be. (Just keepin' it real). Jessica and all of her stylists are extremely talented and amazing and to no surprise, people from other states travel just to get their hair done by these ladies so whether you decide to get hair extensions or not, I would recommend going in to see them for all your hair needs. No really...I swear, I have worked with them all and you will walk out of there feeling like BeyoncΓ©. I have linked all of their IG accounts below so you can take a look for yourself at their work.
As always...please let me know if you have any questions at all about any of this. That's what girlfriends are for right?
