My Summer Hair Secrets

Hey Gurrrrrlllllll,

It’s summer time and we’re all more than likely enjoying time out in the sun and swimming either in a pool, the lake or at the beach. As much fun as this is….we all know this isn’t usually the best for our hair. Having hair extensions….I especially have to make sure I am taking good care of my hair because I want to make them last as long as possible. (For more info on where I go to get my hair done and all about the type of hair extensions I have….check out my blog post HERE!) So below I am sharing with you guys my MUST HAVE products I am using this Summer to keep my hair healthy and looking great. Trust me, you will be so glad you got all the deets.

First, let’s talk about texture because this is extremely important, especially in the summer time when you have elements like chlorine and saltwater drying out your hair. I am OBSESSED with this Label M “Diamond Dust Leave-in Creme”. This stuff is amazing ya’ll! It’s my HOLY GRAIL. I discovered it from my hairstylist Jessica Goldstein and anytime she tells me I need something…I always trust her. I have been using this stuff for years and it never fails. It really helps de-tangle your hair and keep it SO SOFT. I also love using it with my Wet Brush. (yes, mine is leopard. LOL. Are you surprised?). Wet Brushes are great not only for detangling your hair but also work great for those of you that have hair extensions because I have found they don’t pull on your wefts or beads near as much as other brushes which is always a huge plus! And of course…you MUST have a great texturising spray. I usually have always used the Label M’s Texturising Volume Spray because I love how much volume it gives me, but Jessica recently told me about FatBoy Tousle & Go Texture Spray and I love it. I think it’s always good to switch between a couple of Texture sprays too depending on the look you are wanting that particular day.

Next, let’s address our Hair Color. So as you can tell, I have really dark brown hair. I can always tell my hair is happiest when it is dark. Because I wear hair extensions, sometimes from being out in the sun a lot or from swimming….my natural hair will usually remain pretty dark but sometimes the color on my extensions will fade or become brassy which can cause my natural hair and the extensions to be 2 different colors. (Hence why I usually go all dark in the summer). I have usually always used and still do use Pureology’s Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner (purple bottle) but about a month ago I have added the Redken Color Extend Brownlights Blue Toning Sulfate Free Shampoo & Conditioner (another Jessica Goldstein reccomendation of course) and WOW! I really can tell a difference. It keeps my dark hair looking really deep and rich looking. It’s been a game changer and also leaves my hair feeling SUPER SOFT. I usually wash my hair with this once or twice a week. Depending on how much exposure my hair has had to all of the “summer elements” if you will. If your hair is not as dark as mine and you have color treated hair, I HIGHLY recommend Redken’s Color Extend Blondage Color Depositing Purple Shampoo & Conditioner. It works wonders and also keeps your hair from becoming brassy!
